By Josh;
We woke up bright and early with the bright and shining sun! It's so
great to see blue skies again! While we were setting up the solar array
to charge, two men named Larry and Chris asked a whole slew of
questions about the solar car. After attempting to tell them as much as
we could about the car, they offered us free breakfast at the Kickin
Chickin. It would take a while for the car to charge, so we went ahead
and took them up on their offer. Laura, Jamie, and I each got a
“Garbage Plate” which consisted of loads of cheese, peppers, onions,
mushrooms, and about 1-2 potatoes per plate. After attempting to finish
our free feast, we ran over to Dollar Dan's for some party favors to
celebrate Marcelo's one year anniversary since starting the tour. Jamie
had a panda hat, Laura, an elephant, Marcelo, a monkey, and a tiger for
me. We also got some banners to wish the XOF1 tour congratulations. We
returned with breakfast and an impromptu surprise party for Marcelo. We
tilted the array for maximum charge. Then we went for an obligatory
Whippy Dip Extreme Solar Snack. Ice cream for all! We talked to 20/20
about meeting up, and then decided to hit the road on a charge of
105V!!! ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!! I spent all afternoon attempting to
contact Chicago press. We stopped at a Walmart to charge the array and
have some lunch. The array charged up to 98V by the time we left. I
talked to some curious folks about the car and the journey ahead. It's
still hard to believe I've been on the tour a month today. The crew
made it fairly far past the Walmart, before Marcelo's battery died on
his radio. We stopped at a Bob Evans to discuss plans, and find some
wifi. They gave us a free appetizer and Jamie finalized her travel
plans for her departure in Chicago. It will be very sad to see Jamie
go, and she will be missed by the solar crew. Tomorrow: the Windy City!
